We all know music has power. It can transport us back to our past or evoke all the feels of whatever we beckon it for.
I have a few “living” playlists I’m constantly adding to on my Spotify account but today I’m sharing just this one because I think it’s that important. I’ve named it my “Travelogue.” it’s a crazy mix of songs that transports me back to all my most treasured memories of both my personal travels and my professional travels as a destination wedding photographer.
I imagine anyone daring enough to listen to it will also eventually find themselves reminiscing as these are the songs most commonly found at weddings…
Or on the only radio station you’re able to get when your phone won’t connect to your rental car’s system…
Or after three to five shots of really good (bad) tequila.
You may love it, you may think it’s garbage. I really don’t care. The only thing that matters is where it takes me:
Shooting my first destination wedding in Aruba; jumping in the pool fully clothed on my last night there with about 20 of my newest friends.
Winding back down the craziest road I’ve ever been on with my husband on our first trip into Monteverde, Costa Rica.
Driving to and from Liberia Airport to Playa Samara by myself for the very first time.
Getting absolutely clobbered by the waves on the North Shore of Oahu.
Descending into Acapulco at night, on my way to photograph one of the coolest weddings I’ve ever photographed.
The perfect composure of everyone arriving at any wedding ceremony (exchanging their pleasantries) followed by the absolute hilarity of letting all the people you just met (mere hours before) how much you love them at the end of the night.
Taking in the tiny island of Bora Bora, my ultimate dream.
Walking through the markets on a gorgeous sunny day in Old Spitafields Market in London, England.
Latin dancing when you have no right to Latin dance.
Watching Dennis dance at a destination wedding I photographed in Puerto Vallarta; an experience I can’t even begin to explain at a wedding that will remain in my top three for the rest of my life.
Driving around Los Angeles with my hubs, taking in the views high up on Mulholland Drive.
Dancing in New Delhi to the only song the bride hoped to hear that night. Photographing her as she twirled around in her Saari, having a literal ball.
Hot, humid nights on patios in Central America, having drinks with friends old and new.
Winding through the English countryside, looking for castles with the hubs.
A super dodgy karaoke bar in Playa Samara.
That time I met an incredible group of people who took to the stage and belted out the greatest rendition of Tainted Love I’ve ever heard at an open mic night in Samara (without ever practicing or meeting one another before).
Photographing my baby cousin getting married in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
“Dancing” on a limo bus in Las Vegas with 20 of our friends.
Every beach sunset I’ve seen.
Every long hot drive.
The first time I went anywhere but here.
Leaving a place when I wasn’t ready to go.
This list will keep growing. I’ll keep adding to it as I photograph more weddings, make more new friends, travel further, and dance a bit harder.
